Iguanas are some of the largest lizards found in the Americas, with their whiplike tail making up about half of that length. Most species of iguana live in the Americas. The best-known kind is the common, or green, iguana. It is found from Mexico south to Brazil. Most iguanas like dry habitats, but some live in rainforests. The word "iguana" is derived from the original Taino name for the species, iwana.
