The Hercules beetle—named for the classical hero of great strength in Roman mythology—is one of the largest flying insects in the world and can carry up to 85 times its body mass. Found in the rainforests of Central and South America, as well as the Lesser Antilles, their oversized horns are used to battle other males for mating rights. Adult beetles can even create a “huffing” sound as a warning to predators by stridulating their abdomen against their elytra. Male Hercules beetles can reach up to 173mm (7 in) in length!
