Dischidia pectinoides

Mounted in Snail Shell

Dischidia is a type of epiphytic plant of the milkweed family that is native to China and India.  This species has developed a symbiotic relationship with the native species to house them in their "bollate" leaves and the ants provide nutrients and protection from harmful insects.  Not to worry, only ants native to southeast Asia are attracted to these plants, not your everyday house variety.  Each plant is mounted in a large snail shell and has a hanger attached to make displaying easy.  Put it bright diffused light and mist often as they thrive in humidity.  Soak about every 7 to 10 days and make sure no water lingers in the bottom of the shell.
